Road trip: Highway 94 |
||||
The pictures on this page were taken on November 3, 2007 along Highway 94 in San Diego East county. The pictures are from Dehesa, Barrett Junction and Dulzura. The landmark Barrett Cafe Quonset™ hut had survived the fire intact. The dining room was closed but the doors were open to support the fire fighters, recovery and utility services personnel. The people here were very friendly and caring. Some of the recovery efforts include road repairs; replacing roadside safety rails; phone and communications restoration; cutting back burned trees and vegetation. If you are traveling east-bound on Highway 94, please allow extra time as there are reduced speed zones and single lanes in some places while repairs are being made. If you are interested in volunteering to help with post- fire recovery in San Diego you can use the link on the resources page to the Volunteer San Diego website. |

The trio of pictures above shows a large charred area from the Harris fire. Highway 94 is on the left and the burn area is visible on both sides of the road. Above left: Cars and service vehicles on Highway 94 waiting for the single lane to open for westbound traffic. |
